Full speed ahead for love

Kneeling down in a romantic place was not enough for Philipp Pollack. He wanted to ask his girlfriend to marry him in a very particular way. The BILSTER BERG served as the stage.

It takes a lot of courage to do this: Driving a car safely around a racetrack at 120 km/h when a) you are an absolute beginner in racing, b) “Will you marry me?” appears in huge illuminated letters on the track display and c) your co-driver is the lady of your heart to whom this question is dedicated and of whom you do not know how she will answer the question. “My girlfriend didn’t understand at first that it was about her,” says Philipp Pollack. “My girlfriend didn’t really understand at first that it was about her,” says Philipp Pollack. “After I asked her to tell me the lap time while passing the big display, she read the words “Will you marry me?” out loud to me. “Huh?” she asked. “Why ‘will you marry me’?” It had taken a few seconds for his girlfriend Sina to realise that the question was meant for her. She said “Yes!” At that time, the 27-year-old had been in a relationship with Philipp for ten years. They had already been dating at high school. Philipp Pollack didn’t want to propose to his high school sweetheart just for the sake of it. “I don’t like to serve clichés,” says the 26-year-old. “I like to march to a different drummer.” Plus, he’s a car fanatic: “For a long time, I’ve wanted to drive on a racetrack.” His girlfriend always said that she wanted to be there if it ever happened. So why not arrange to propose to Sina on a race track – even more so in the dim light of an evening event. “It was the first ‘twilight race’ to be held under the name ‘Night & Drive’ at BILSTER BERG,” says Managing Director Hans-Jürgen von Glasenapp. “The event starts at nightfall and ends under the light of the headlights and track lighting. Such a race is a challenge for all participants, but also a very impressive experience and a guarantee for an extraordinary atmosphere.” Just as Philipp Pollack had imagined. However, some things turned out quite differently: the box with the ring, which he had placed under the driver’s seat of his Polo GTI, was not so easy to get hold of during the drive. “I finally found it in the nick of time and was able to open it and present it to my girlfriend,” says Pollack. In addition, he did not take into account that after the ultimate question, he still had to finish the round and could not immediately hug and kiss his soon-to-be wife. At the romantic candlelight dinner in the BILSTER BERG restaurant, however, he was able to express his feelings to his future wife. The management had invited them to dinner. “We were so blown away by Mr Pollack’s request and plans that we wanted to support him to the best of our ability,” says von Glasenapp. And the couple felt so comfortable and well catered for that they are now considering celebrating their wedding on the BERG in the spring of 2018.
